Feeding
the Jungle Carpet Python
| Feeding Schedule: |
Neonate: 1-2 pinkie mice (fuzzy mice if possible) every week.
Adult: 1 rat every week. |
| Prey size: |
Match the size of prey to the girth [widest part of body] of the
snake, not the size of the head. Gerbils also ok [I have fed both
gerbils and mice]. Should accept frozen or prekilled with little or
no problem. |

Notes:
|
It has come to my attention that jungle carpet pythons are picky
eaters when it comes to rats, and generally they do not like rats.
Hence, it is recommended to switch from mice to rats as soon as the
snake is large enough to take pink rats. Hearing this from experienced
keepers (and one who has to feed his python around 20 mice per feeding
because of a refusal of rats--ouch), I decided to switch Raziel to
rats. I had no problem, as it seems that she prefers rats to mice.
Odd. |
