Pythons belong to the family Boidae, which is a sub group of the super-family Booidea There are about 25 species of python known. All pythons are constrictors, and none are venemous. All of them lay eggs. (well, that is to say that the female pythons lay eggs). A python will typically lay from fifteen to one hundred eggs. The python is one of the more docile types of snake. Some types of python are suitable as pets. In particular, the ball python is quite popular. Others, such as the retuculated python, can grow to such sizes that keeping them as pets is not practical. A common mis-belief is that the anaconda is the longest snake. In fact it is the reticulated python, which can reach lengths of over thirty feet.
